Secrets

Is it bad that I post so little, I feel the need to redesign the blog every time I do? Probably. Okay here's the thing. I have something new to post about more often. But first, a little update.

I deleted the posts of Idea Men. If you would like to see them, simply search "Idea Men" on YouTube and look for Baden's face in the search results. I could never figure out how to fit the video on a post so that it wasn't covering up something else. And with this new design, they were covering up my Life List. And we just can't have that.

Speaking of the Life List - it's been updated! I've crossed off "Pass the CPC exam," "Be certified in all of first aid and CPR," and "Learn to change the oil and a tire on my car." All of those things really happened! I passed the CPC test in March which makes me a certified coder and able to get a job. Oh yeah, and I have a job now. I changed the oil and a tire with Baden a few months ago and to be honest, I was glad for the experience, yet I don't feel the need to ever do it again. And I am certified in First Aid and CPR thanks to some classes Virginia Western. I think they last a year or two before I'll have to renew them.

I'm still working on reading the Bible cover to cover. Still in the Old Testament. I reached 2 Chronicles this morning. I got out of the habit of reading for a while, but I'm trying to remember to at least read a chapter on my phone over lunch at work. Hey, as long as I finish it in this life time, that's good enough, right?

Okay, back to the thing I have to post more often about, and explaining the title of this post. I have a secret. Lately I've been.... exercising.

I know, totally not like me at all. Here's the thing. I want to be honest in this blog. And to be completely honest, I've chubbed up since getting married. Well, since going to college. Okay, so it's been since middle school. Whatever!

The goal here is to loose weight. I hate to say that I've been "dieting" because I despise that word. It's more that I've been conscience about what I eat and I've been eating much, much healthier since starting my job. That's been for a few months now. The new development is the exercise component. I've "worked out" three times this week and I'm about to go this morning too.

The really deep, dark secret I have to share is that... I want to be one of those people. We all know those people. Those people who need to run to feel right and think straight. Those people who are always signing up for the next half marathon. Those people who actually wear out their running shoes. Truth is, I've always wanted to be a runner. However, I've been so out of shape for so long that I can't run very far whenever I try and I give up. But not this time. This time, I'm accepting the fact that I can't run one mile without stopping (actually, on the treadmill the other day I could only run a tenth of mile).

So I'm starting with walking. I walk fast (a 3.5 on a treadmill) and on a slight incline, so that I can slowly build up to being a runner. As I get in better shape, the longer I'll be able to last, and the more running I can do. Besides, by everything I read, brisk walking is the best fat burning cardio work out a person can do.

Want some more honesty? I started out this journey at 178 lbs., and now I'm about 174. I'd love to just snap my fingers and be 40 pounds lighter, but I'm trying to be patient. My goal is Christmas time. Not necessarily to be at my goal weight by then, that might be too fast, but to at least be able to run three or four miles at a time. Thursday I walked 2 miles and that was my longest yet. Progress is progress!

This post is long enough. I'll try to keep you updated at least weekly as I go along.
