I do have other things going on in life. For example, Baden and I have had a whirlwind weekend of going to DC for a wedding, to Buena Vista the next day for the reception, and back to Buena Vista today to visit our old ward. We got to see some friends we adore and miss, and try a new cuisine! Iranian Kabobs. They were delicious! I ate way to much naan. It's kind of like a puffy, soft, warm saltine cracker without the salt. But good.
The thing about having a fun weekend visiting different places is that temptation to stray from my ESWL was all around. As SOON as I said, "Oh, not eating fast food is easy for me, it's not a big deal" I wanted some Popeyes chicken somethin' fierce! We just had one open here in Roanoke and it's right across the street from a Krispy Kreme. Last night, Baden was craving a doughnut and our friend Adam Cubbage, who was riding with us, wanted to get some food. So we headed for the Krispy Kreme/Popeyes/Center For All That Is Evil area of town. I'll be honest, I thought I was going to break. I started thinking, "Maybe it's about time for a cheat night, maybe it wouldn't be too bad if I just had a couple bites of doughnut and just some chicken without fries." Luckily, when we got there, Krispy Kreme was already closed. Popeyes was smelling mighty fine, but I had a profound realization. Those places will still be there when I've lost weight and can go easier on myself with the ESWL. I had to VOW to myself that I would get some eventually and that's what kept me from straying.
For now, the weight loss is coming along! I was 170.4 on Saturday, down almost eight pounds. I feel like I've been doing this FOREVER so it seems like it's coming off really slowly. I just have to remind myself that losing about a pound a week is what's healthy for someone my size and try to stay... uggghh... patient.
I'm hoping that getting into better and better shape will help it come off a little faster. If I can do more cardio for a longer period of time, that means I'm physically able to burn more calories per workout and the weight should come off a little faster, right? I have absolutely nothing to back that idea up, though.
We got to see our friends Matt and Holli (http://mattandhollicoats.blogspot.com/)this weekend and Holli is a running machine. She's run several races by now and told me about a 5k coming up in December in DC. This one: http://www.hotchocolate15k.com/dc/ That's right, a chocolate themed race sponsored by Ghirardelli! Just the motivation I need! I convinced Baden to sign up too (I mean, you get a windbreaker AND hot chocolate AND chocolate fondue afterwards). December 3rd. My first 5k. Here I come!
You can do it, Robin! A dietician once told me that one to two pounds a week is the healthiest way to lose weight. Sure, it's slow, but that means you are much more likely to keep it off. Can't wait to see pictures of your first 5k!
